Darwin Nunez is fueling Liverpool speculation with social media activity
Darwin Nunez has fueled reports of a summer exit from Liverpool by removing all photos of his time at Anfield from his Instagram page.
Reports in England suggest that Nunez, who is believed to have been pursued by manager Jurgen Klopp as he is being compared to a club that hires the club, could be sold this summer due to interest from Barcelona, .
After those rumors first surfaced, Nunez was left out of Liverpool's 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur, coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes.
Speculation grew after the final whistle when Nunez deleted all Liverpool-related photos from his Instagram, with the word Reds the only tag in his bio.
Nunez's page still features photos from his time at Benfica but all subsequent posts are about his family or the Uruguayan national team.
Liverpool have agreed an £85m deal to sign Nunez from Benfica in 2022 and reports suggest they have already paid a total of £76.5m, with the remaining £8.5m still linked to unspecified team and individual performance clauses.
As a result, Nunez has officially become Liverpool's record signing, surpassing the £75m fee paid to sign defender Virgil van Dijk, but many Reds fans fear they are not getting value for their big spend.
Despite the speculation, Nunez has enjoyed a better season in front of goals this year compared to his debut campaign. After 15 goals and four assists in 2022/23, Nunez has tallied 18 and 13 this time, but some fans are left wanting more.
Any deal to sign Nunez will be very difficult to pull off from Barcelona, front of the world's public is no secret of its financial problems, but the La Liga outfit could need a new striker this summer if they fail to convince young Vitor Roque to stay at the Camp Nou.
