Seigo Yuri Akui defeats Taku Kuwahara to retain WBA flyweight title

Seigo Yuri Akui and Takku Kuwahara first faced off in the ring with the Japanese flyweight belt on the line. Akui won that fight by 10th round stoppage in 2021. Three seasons later, Akui won the WBA world title by unanimous decision over long-time reigning Artem Dalakian in January of this year, so his rematch with Kuwahara on the Inoue-Nery undercard was. with big poles but he maintained his superiority over his home rival.

Kuwahara (13-2, 8 KOs) managed to go 12 rounds on Monday but was soundly defeated by Akui (20-2-1, 11 KOs), who won by scores of 118-110 and 117-111 (twice . . Akui went down with confidence on a moving Kuwahara, landing jabs, right hands, one-two combinations, slick lead hooks and body shots en route to his unanimous victory.

Akui is The Ring's No. 4-rated flyweight.
