NHL Rumors: San Jose Sharks, and Tampa Bay Lightning

Anyone want to trade for Logan Couture?

Max Miller of Hockey News: San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture, 35, would like to play for a winning team but knows his health will be a problem as he played only six games last season.

“There are many layers. First of all, I must be healthy; I have to play. I said this when I was talking to you when I was sold, no one will want an injured boy, who is leading me,” said Couture. “Obviously, I have a history of being a productive player in this league, but I have to come back and show that the teams are interested in me, that's all.”

Couture has three years remaining at $8 million per season and a modified no-trade clause. Couture does not rule out trade but neither does it rule out staying with a group. Being healthy is a priority for him. He is expected to start skating in July and be ready for practice.

The Tampa Bay Lightning may need to shed salary again. Is Anthony Cirelli in danger of being removed?

Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times: Re-signing Steven Stamkos is high on Tampa Bay Lightning GM Julien BriseBois' to-do list. Defenseman Victor Hedman is eligible for a contract extension this offseason and negotiations will take place.

Stamkos and Hedman are part of a team that took below market value to re-sign with the Lightning previously.

In past years the Lightning have had to clear salary cap space and this year will likely be no different. One player to keep an eye on is Anthony Cirelli as he has no trade protection. He has seven years left at $6.25 million apiece. The Lightning have Brayden Point, Cerelli, Nick Paul, and Luke Glendening down the middle and could consider moving Stamkos back to center.

The Lightning have a list of UFAs who won't be returning, so BriseBois will look to add some top players along with Dmen. Mitchell Chaffee should be re-signed soon but Austin Watson, Haydn Fleury and Calvin de Haan are unlikely to return.
