Kyrie Irving Responds To Anthony Edwards' Viral Comments About Him

Kyrie Irving addressed Anthony Edwards' comments about wanting to guard him during the Western Conference Finals. Edwards made headlines when he said, “My match is going to be Kyrie … we'll see what I can do against him.”

Irving then came out extremely aggressive in Game 1 and finished with 30 points, five rebounds and four assists on 52 percent shooting. He also helped the Dallas Mavericks to a dramatic Game 1 win on the road.

After the game, Irving addressed Edwards by name during an NBA insider interview.

“I used it as motivation,” he said with a laugh, referring to Edward's words. “When I was sitting at home I saw, I just said, 'Just a respectful nod'. And then again, I knew what kind of game it was going to be in Game 1, and throughout the series.

“So, you're right, I was at home with my family watching Game 7 and Ant came out and said, 'I got Kyrie.' But again, that's the idea of not being afraid, and that's why we love Ant. So coming out tonight, I knew he was going to push me a little bit.”

Irving also showed respect for Edwards in his postgame press conference.

“As a peer, man, I love that,” he said. “There is nothing better. When Ant was little, I'm sure he looked up to me and when he was in high school I looked up to him…that he has no sense of fear and that's why I love him.”

Irving vs. Edwards will undoubtedly be an interesting matchup to watch when they square off again in Game 2 on Friday.
