Leif Davis says his dream is to play for Newcastle United amid interest

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Ipswich Town's Leif Davis ahead of the summer transfer window and the defender has admitted it is his dream to play for the Magpies.

Speaking in a recent interview with Football Daily, the Newcastle-born footballer was asked which stadium he would like to play in and the Ipswich star replied “St James' Park”.

Davis continued: “It's amazing how it's turned out, everyone over there in Newcastle is very happy at the moment.”

When asked if his biggest ambition is to play for the Magpies, the defender replied “Absolutely.”

Newcastle have been linked with a move for Davis in recent months with reports claiming the Tyneside club and West Ham are keen on the 24-year-old following his impressive season at Portman Road.

The left-back has played 44 games for Ipswich this season, scoring two goals and providing an eye-catching 21 assists.

With his contract expiring in 2025, a huge offer could see Ipswich sell the star, and it remains to be seen if Newcastle make the defender's dreams come true.

The left-back has been a problem for Eddie Howe this season as the Magpies boss has used Dan Burn due to a lack of options.

Howe began to trust Lewis Hall towards the end of the campaign and the 19-year-old responded well. The defender is expected to join Newcastle permanently from Chelsea this summer and that would hamper any potential deal for Davis.

The Tyneside club have no need for the Ipswich star at the moment unless the defender is happy to play in a supporting role.
