Kobbie Mainoo praises Christian Eriksen's journey ahead of the Denmark game

Kobbie Mainoo said he has learned a lot from Manchester United teammate Christian Eriksen as England prepare to face Denmark on Thursday.

The Three Lions started their campaign with a 1-0 win against Serbia, while Denmark drew 1-1 with Slovenia.

England know that if they win against the Danes, they will be able to enter the knockout stage with a game to go.

Mainoo learned from Eriksen

Mainoo made his competitive debut for England coming on late against Serbia, and will now face two of his United team-mates on Thursday in Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund.

Eriksen scored Denmark's goal against Slovenia 1,100 days after suffering a cardiac arrest in their Euro 2020 opener.

Mainoo has been talking about the 32-year-old player as he said that he learned a lot from him, and praised the journey he has made since the last Euros.

Mainoo is looking forward to facing Eriksen on Thursday.

“I learned a lot from him, I watched him last season without playing much, I try to learn and pick up from his game,” Mainoo told the media.

“The journey he has taken since the last Euros is amazing.

“Being around him, he is a great player.

“If I'm going to play on Thursday, I'll have to put it aside to compete with him and hopefully I'll win.”

To Hojlund, the midfielder added that he had not spoken to him yet, but said that they are really good friends.

“I haven't spoken to him recently, but I will leave you after the game,” he added.

“I have never played with him before. He's a really good friend, it's good to have that relationship on the pitch and he builds it off the pitch and around the training ground.”

Mainoo is currently competing for minutes with Declan Rice, Adam Wharton, Conor Gallagher and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the 19-year-old will hope to play a bigger role as the tournament progresses.
