The NFL Hall of Famer and Super Bowl XVIII MVP loves golf so much, he'll play with just about anyone. Even the kickers.

G: What drew you to the game of golf?

Ma: Well, first of all, it's the drive to improve, to be better. I always strive for consistency, which, for me, is almost impossible. [Laughs.]

G: That's pretty much the same for everyone.

MA: And then from the public's point of view, it's just the best game for fathers and sons or brothers or friends so they can enjoy spending time together, walking and talking and challenging each other. And it's an amazing opportunity to come in and develop relationships because you have four hours to do that.

G: Right, and that's hard to do on the football field.

MA: Yes, my job was to run away from people!

G: What is your opinion on why kickers and quarterbacks seem to be the best golfers?

MA: Because they are not beaten! [Laughs.]

G: I think that is true. So they don't end up with that much damage.

MA: Men, they don't participate in any physical activity except maybe sports. But if you run the ball, you get hit. If you block, you get hit. If you go up and catch the ball, you get hit. So ours is a very challenging game from that point of view. A lot of hitting.

G: You are right.

MA: Quarterbacks wear yellow jerseys to practice so no one accidentally hits them. And you want to talk about kickers! They don't even go to meetings! [Laughs.]

G: Did you do it while you were in the NFL?

MA: No. I didn't take up golf until later in my career. I was 100 percent focused on football. But I look forward to playing this game for the rest of my life.

G: Is there anything you did well on the football field that helped you on the golf course?

MA: I think I would say focus and determination. Those are useful features to have on the golf course. Especially for my game!

G: I know a lot of you Hall of Famers play together when you're in Canton for the annual summer memorial service. If there was an official competition for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, who would win?

MA: Oh my goodness. I'm not sure. Maybe Marshall Faulk or Eric Dickerson.

G: Running back! I don't think there are many kickers in the hall.

MA: Of course.

G: Where would you put Marcus Allen in that category?

MA: [Laughing] It's going up!
