Promoter Bob Arum Confirms Lomachenko Interest In Tank Davis Fight

Promoter Bob Arum has confirmed that boxer, IBF lightweight champion, Vasily Lomachenko, wants a fight with Gervonta 'Tank' Davis later this year.

Arum says he hasn't spoken to Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs), but said he has spoken to his manager Egis Klimas, who says Loma wants to face Tank Davis next.

The Long Awaited War

After Lomachenko's last fight with George Kambosos Jr in May, there was talk that he might retire. That's not the case. Arum says Top Rank will meet with Tank's management on Friday to further discuss the fight.

Lomachenko is seeking a unification fight with WBA 'regular' lightweight champion Tank (30-0, 28 KOs), and the two could meet in November if their managers can put together a deal they are both satisfied with.

Lomachenko wanted this fight since 2017, but the promoters of Tank in those years were not interested in making the match for obvious reasons.

Tank was not fighting anyone the fans wanted since he was protected from losing. Now that he is older and more confident in his career, he is ready to start fighting better opposition.

He hasn't started doing that yet, but hopefully, with this fight against Lomachenko, he will turn over a new leaf and start taking risks.

Negotiating a Deal

“Our people at Top Rank are meeting with their people this week, maybe Friday, and hopefully, we can work out a deal so we can fight before the end of the year,” promoter Bob Arum wrote to Sean Zittel, speaking. about the Gervonta 'Tank' Davis vs. Vasily Lomachenko lightweight.

“I know that Tank wants that fight, and Loma wants that fight. So, it is now a question of agreeing on terms. No, I haven't spoken to him, but I have spoken to Egis Klimas, his manager, who lives in California. Egis said he talked to Loma and got permission,” said Arum about Lomachenko's next fight with Tank Davis.

“I don't think age is important. The question is, Tank, with his strength, can that match the Lomachenko skillet? That's what makes it such an interesting fight. Tank has nowhere near the skills of Lomachenko, but Lomachenko is nowhere near the power Tank does.

“That's why you make those wars. “I think he's a good fighter, and he's obviously got a lot of power,” Arum said of Tank Davis. “He's probably the one I've seen in the lightweight division, maybe since then [Roberto] Duran.

“No, we're not sending anyone to anyone,” Arum said when asked if he would co-broadcast or send Lomachenko to Amazon for the Tank fight. “That will be expedited between the parties as usual.

“People will face Luis DeCubas. We will put together an agreement that both parties can live with. What that will look like is part of the negotiations.

“If both participants, those who are fighting, when they want it, the chances of it happening are much higher than when one fighter is reluctant, and one fighter wants it. Here, both fighters want it, and if both fighters want it, the suits come together and are bound to match it. So, yeah, I'm strong,” Arum said.
