Jason Domínguez Expected to Miss About Eight Weeks

Yankees quarterback Jason Domínguez you will lose a lot of time with oblique strain. SNY forwarded the video to manager X Aaron Boone discussing the issue, the captain said that Domínguez will miss “up to eight weeks” before he can play games because form is “very important.”

It's another bad mistake for Domínguez, who arrived at the big leagues with such brilliance last year. With the Yankees facing a losing season in 2023, the prospect was raised as a September call-up, and he hit four home runs in his first eight games.

Unfortunately, he then needed Tommy John surgery, which ended that exciting run and put him on the path to a challenging 2024. He started the season on the injured list while recovering from that surgery and was reinstated last week. Since the Yankees have a strong major league outfield Juan Soto, Aaron is the judge again Alex Verdugowith Giancarlo Stanton in the chosen place to call again Trent Grisham on the bench, Domínguez was elected to receive regular Triple-A at-bats.

But this past weekend, a few days after returning to IL, he was placed in minor league IL with some finesse. Now it looks like he's set for another long stretch of work, and the eight-week timeline would put him in mid-August.

It's a tough blow for the Yankees on many fronts. In the short term, the big league outfield is in good shape, as stated. But if any of their big outfielders were to get injured, this would leave their outfield depth thin. Everson Pereira, one of the club's top outside prospects, recently underwent UCL surgery and is out for the year. With Domínguez out again, the Yankees don't have an outfielder on the 40-man roster who can be recalled to fill someone else's spot.

In the long run, it's obviously less than ideal for a leading man to lose almost an entire season of development like this. Both Verdugo and Soto are set for free agency after this season and Grisham will be non-tendered, giving the club little certainty in the outfield without Judge. They're obviously hoping to re-sign Soto but that's not a guarantee and they'll need to shut down Verdugo and possibly Grisham even if they can lure Soto back.

Ideally, Domínguez will be getting regular playing time and convincing the Yankees that he can be a part of their 2025 club, but that will have to be put on hold for now. He should still have a few weeks of playing time at the end of the season if things go as planned from here, but it's a waiting game for Domínguez now.
