Bradley: Davis Vs. Lomachenko Is A Toss-Up, Not An Unknown Fate

Tim Bradley believes Gervonta 'Tank' Davis vs. Vasily Lomachenko is a “50-50” who the Baltimore native might lose.

Bradley notes that two-time Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) is the best fighter WBA 'regular' lightweight champion Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) fought him in his 11-year professional career, and it doesn't matter that Loma is seven years older than the 29-year-old.

Tank stopped rounds against his last opponent, Frank Martin, and in fights with Ryan Garcia and Mario Barrios. He doesn't have the boxing ability to beat Lomachenko without a knockout, and that's never a good thing if a fighter relies solely on a knockout win.

Lomachenko: A Different Kind

“I think Loma will be very difficult. I think he's the brainiest guy Tank has ever stepped into the ring with. “I think he's the most athletic guy I've ever had in the ring,” Tim Bradley told Fighthype about the proposed fight between Gervonta 'Tank' Davis and Vasily Lomachenko in November.

It would be bad for Tank if he falls seven rounds behind against Lomachenko, who needs a come-from-behind goal to win in November. Lomachenko will play defense, and he's not stupid enough to fight off the ropes like Martin and Leo Santa Cruz did against Tank.

“He has A-levels, even at 36. He is an A-level. He was in with everyone, he was able to detonate the bombs of everyone he was crying with,” said Bradley. “Go back and watch 'Axe.' [Nicholas Walters]and I know that was little Loma [in 2016].”

Against Teofimo Lopez, Lomachenko was fighting with one arm and against a much bigger and much smaller fighter. Even then, Lomachenko managed five of the last six rounds of the fight.

“Go back and look at Teo. That was little Loma. Teo is strong, too, and was able to avoid it and get his stuff out of the back, and fight him in the torn shoulder, too. Loma is smart. Don't you think he has been watching Tank for a long time?” Bradley said.

Skill wise, Tank is very limited, and has a bad habit of closing behind top guards for long periods of time in his fights. You can see when you look at him that he will lose a lot as he is old if he doesn't retire.

The Tank's Achilles' Heel

“He has been wanting to fight him for years. Is age a factor in this? Can be. Can Loma be worn in battle? Yes. 400 student battles, but I think he is smart and I think he can make waves in battle. “I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Tank will just grab him and take him out,” said Bradley.

Although Lomachenko is as young as ever, but his mind is sharp, and the things he has learned over the years may not be enough to make up for the lost youth and power advantage of Tank.

“I think it will be a challenge for Tank. I think Tank will need to catch him and hurt him to secure the win. I think it's 50-50. I think Tank can win this fight and take him out,” said Bradley.
