Man United have identified Jonathan David as a potential candidate for Joshua Zirkzee

Manchester United are one of four clubs interested in Lille striker Jonathan David according to reports.

With manager Erik ten Hag's future secure United are now pushing ahead with their transfer plans as they look to strengthen a squad that finished in bottom eighth place last season.

The Red Devils need to strengthen in many areas, and they especially need to strengthen the defense and the striker to help Rasmus Hojlund.

United are interested in Jonathan David

United are in the market for a striker to help take the goalscoring burden off Hojlund, who joined for a big fee from Atalanta last summer.

Reports have suggested United are set to make a £34m move for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee despite facing stiff competition from AC Milan to sign the Dutchman.

However, the news reported that the Red Devils are one of the four teams in England looking for David, who has only one year left on his contract with Lille.

United have identified David as an alternative to Zirkzee.

The report adds that the Canadian can be had for around £25m, and Lille would not want to lose him on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.

David has been in fine goalscoring form for the Ligue 1 side and found the back of the net 19 times in the French top flight last season.

Innews adds that a number of senior figures at United are said to be interested in David, including incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth.

United are expected to be financially strapped this summer with some reports suggesting their initial budget could be less than £50m, so David would represent a good deal at an affordable price.

The Old Trafford outfit are expected to try to increase their budget by selling the likes of Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood in what will be a busy summer for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos.
