Abdullah Mason is open to fight Tank, Shakur and Lomachenko

Abdullah Mason, a talented Top Rank lightweight, believes he could face Shakur Stevenson, Gervonta Davis, and Vasily Lomachenko if they're still around if he makes it to the top of the division.

The 20-year-old Mason (14-0, 12 KOs) is not yet considered among the elite fighters due to his age, lack of experience, and the fact that he is still in his prime. He believes that he can soon fight for the world title, which will be decided by his promoters Top Rank.

Unfortunately, Tank Davis and Lomachenko are likely to retire when Mason is ready to fight for the world title. These two are older and won't sit around and be stepping stones to younger fighters.

Shakur Stevenson seems to be making friends with Mason, which means he won't agree to fight him. Stevenson has become friends with the undefeated Keyshawn Davis, who some feel is a Terence Crawford-type prospect heading into the lightweight division.

“In boxing, there is one thing we say. Boxing will determine who I will fight when I reach the top. “So, if they're on top long enough, there's going to be some fights they're going to have to fight,” Abdullah Mason told UCSS when asked if he could face Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson and Vasily Lomachenko in the future.

It is possible that by the time Abdullah Mason fights for the world title at lightweight, the landscape will be different, and without the current top fights, Tank, Lomachenko, and Shakur, who hold the belts. If Keyshawn had the world title at the time, Mason could fight him if Top Rank wanted that match, but they would choose to split them up to ensure two streams of income and answer both stars.

Last Saturday night, Abdullah Mason turned the match of the night, stopping Luis Lebron in the third round on the undercard of Shakur Stevenson vs. Artem Harutyunyan at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Interestingly, Mason got a bigger ovation from the New Jersey fans than his hometown hero, Shakur.

Mason fights Augustin Quintana next month in an eight-rounder on the undercard of Christian Mbili vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko on August 17 at the Center Videotron in Quebec City. The event will air on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ beginning at 10:00 pm ET/7:00 pm PT.
