MLBTR Podcast: Outfielder Pitching Needs, Marlins Rumors And Nats Prepare To Trade

I feel like there are too many people commenting on the Marlins, but they haven't watched the games in the last few seasons…and it seems like Bendix didn't watch the tape going in.

While the rebuild may be justified for them this year, I have a problem with the 'scorched earth' type of rebuild. They've had the same problem for the past few years – the lack of an official Closer. They have spent most of the games from the start of 2020 so far giving clues to their bullpen, where their bullpen is hitting. It was clear that when their bullpen leads, they win…and both 2020 and 2023 show that they are contenders for Wild Card spots.

They don't have an old team. They have strong players aged 28 and under. There is a feeling that, if the Marlins keep the team together, and do what they refused to do by getting Closer official, they will be quickly adjusted to get back around .500 and playoff contention, and then they can focus on building the team. This complete rebuild feels more like Bendix ensuring a career's longevity than making the most sense when a team already has players on their roster at entry. And it showed a disregard for the reality of how badly the bullpen has started and played this season. Unfortunately, they blew half of their games in the first few weeks to catch the hole they were stuck in. That's a bullpen problem…not a roster problem. If they have delivered a LEGIT Closer and continue to lose, it is time for the 'scorched earth' to be rebuilt. But they never did. They accused the enitre team of blowing up the best bulls they were given. The first guards did their job a few years ago. The lineup, while struggling, scored enough points to give a lead in the bullpen. It is a bull that needs a 'scorched earth' to rebuild. Not the whole program.

And the players are still young enough that, by the time we need to fill their gaps, you should have been drawing a few years better to strengthen the farm from where it fell.

None of this makes sense to me. And I added, and I still say, trading Arraez was a boneheaded move and apparently a tonedeaf move as well.

Are we really rebuilding the 'scorched earth' with a list of key, solid pieces aged 28 and under? That is just stupid. I would like to hear more discussions about that instead of sticking to one side of what big market fans choose to hear. Give the POV of informed Marlins fans who see how ridiculous this is. Think about it! Rebuilding the 'bent world' with a team that made the playoffs last year, and many players 28 and under! This is not a team full of guys on the wrong side of 30. The 'scorched earth' reconstruction of this team is just stupid!
