'Now it's in their hands'

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin says his future is in the hands of his current club, as Arsenal have been touted as a possible destination for the Ukrainian.

The 25-year-old has made himself Carlo Ancelotti's first stop in the second half of the 2023/2024 season, displacing Kepa Arrizabalaga after the Chelsea man was signed on loan as cover for Thibaut Courtois.

The Belgian goalkeeper suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier in the campaign but, as one of the world's best players in his position, returned to the team in May before starting in the Champions League final win over Borussia Dortmund.

However, Lunin has been a major contributor to Madrid's league and European double, making 31 appearances in all competitions, and has now expressed his desire to continue playing regularly.

He told MARCA: “Will I stay at Real Madrid? Let's see, let's see. Obviously I want to continue, but … well, the only thing I can say is that everything went well with Real Madrid and that now it's in their hands. That's what I can say about my future.

“I understand that everything will be complicated, because Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. But this also makes me better and stronger mentally. I want to play and be number one, that's normal.”

Premier League champions Arsenal are said to have followed former Leganes, Real Valladolid and Real Oviedo loanees, with current pupil Aaron Ramsdale facing an uncertain future at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners reportedly made a £50,000 bid for Wolves' Daniel Bentley but saw their bid quickly rejected.

Elsewhere at the Bernabeu, Spain defender Dani Carvajal has revealed he is trying to convince Manchester City midfielder and fellow international Rodri to sign for Los Blancos.
