As Long As Everything Goes According To Plan, Joseph Parker's Repetition Is Andy Ruiz's Number One.

Andy Ruiz knows what it's like at the top of the mountain. He also knows how dangerous the view can be from the ground.

Since claiming three of the four major heavyweight titles in 2019 against Anthony Joshua, Ruiz has been unable to find consensus. With only two fights in five years, the 34-year-old hopes to find a rhythm when he faces Jarrell Miller on August 3.

Looking past his good friend and former sparring partner would be unwise. So, with no room for error, Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs) is concentrating on taking down the top contender. If he does, fans won't need to play the guessing game about who he wants next.

“God willing, we will get Miller out of the way,” Ruiz told a group of reporters. “There are so many fighters but I want to fight Joseph Parker and get a rematch with him.”

Back in 2016, the undefeated Ruiz stepped into the ring against Parker with the vacant WBO title up for grabs. With the chance to become a world champion in his hands, Ruiz was left shocked when the three judges scored their match giving Parker a slight advantage.

Ultimately, Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) will lose his title to Anthony Joshua, while Dillian Whyte and Joe Joyce also take their pound of flesh. But just when Parker and his job were almost dead, he changed things.

Now, with a five-fight winning streak, including back-to-back victories over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, Parker is one of the hottest names in the division.

Although he's moved on, Ruiz, at times, broods over what happened nearly a decade ago. The ball is not in his court but if Parker had been willing to throw him in the crosshairs, Ruiz believes the outcome would have been different.

“I know I could have done better. If God wants, he gives me a chance.”
