Crowborough Beacon Golf Club has appointed Chris Dowrick as its new secretary to oversee an exciting new era in the East Sussex club's history as it prepares to become one of the UK's hottest golf destinations.

Bringing a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success with him to Crowborough Beacon, Dowrick will have full control of the group's day-to-day operations, ensuring a first-class experience is provided for both members and guests.

Established in 1895, Crowborough Beacon occupies an unencumbered position on one of the highest points in Sussex, enjoying expansive views of the county's coastline and sea. Although mystery surrounds who first designed the golf course, the course has been developed over the past 120 years by the game's greatest architects – including Augusta's Alistair Mackenzie and Harry Colt of Sunningdale.

Dowrick, 39, joins the East Sussex club following three-and-a-half years as general manager at North Foreland Golf Club near Kent, where he helped the club achieve record profits.

Responsible for all major areas of the business including the golf course, food and beverage and general reception, Dowrick led a team of over 50 staff throughout the North Foreland project, successfully developing many stay and play packages and increased green fees. revenue is up 66 percent compared to the previous record year.

Dowrick has also successfully launched the 'Swing Into Golf' program at North Foreland, a program specifically designed to provide a more relaxed approach for new women to the game including tailored tuition and free open days. Dowrick is also championing a similar campaign at Crowborough Beacon that offers discounted memberships to female golfers.

Previously, Dowrick enjoyed a successful three-year stint at Foxhills Club & Resort as membership sales manager, worked at Goodwood Golf and began his career at West Chiltington Golf Club.

Dowrick said: “I'm delighted to be joining the team at Crowborough Beacon and I'm really excited about what we can do here. Crowborough Beacon is a giant, and it's time to re-establish it as a destination for golfers looking to play some of the best heathland golf in the region.”

One of Dowrick's first steps as secretary at the Crowborough Beacon saw him partner with PR and branding specialist Azalea.

Andy Barwell, managing director of Azalea, said: “Crowborough Beacon is a true giant, and we are delighted to help Chris and the team establish it as one of the premier golf courses in the South East. Already a must-play for those looking for quality golf, we look forward to playing our part in raising the profile of the golf course by increasing brand awareness.”
