Will Fury retire after the Usyk Rematch, leaving the Joshua Showdown?

Boxing analyst Gareth A. Davies thinks Tyson Fury will not face Anthony Joshua if he wins his fight with untitled heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in October.

Gareth does not say why he thinks Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) will leave this fight rather than stay and fight Joshua to give the English fans the fight they have been calling for.

Fury's Track record

It doesn't make much sense to me for Fury to hang up his gloves without taking a big lead day against AJ. Who knows, Fury might fall off the wagon after defeating Usyk and eat himself to the point where he can't come back.

We saw Fury do that after beating a 40-year-old Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, and the guy was washed out. Usyk is still in his prime, more or less, so Fury could celebrate like crazy if he wins the rematch.

The decision to fight Joshua or not may be taken out of Fury's hands if he loses the rematch with Uysk and what may be the result. Fury looked terrible last Saturday night in his 12-round decision loss to Usyk in Riyadh, and coming off that fight, he won't win a rematch unless it's a controversial decision.

Davies Weeps for a Missed Opportunity

“If Fury beats Uysk in the second fight, I don't think he will fight Joshua. I think he will go,” said boxing analyst Gareth A. Davies on iFL TV when asked if he believes Tyson Fury will fight Anthony Joshua.

“It would be a tragedy if we don't get that fight. It is the fight we have wanted for five years. I think if Fury ends up winning against Usyk, I think we'll see Usyk fight Joshua. I think Usyk wins again.

“I think Usyk and Fury had the hardest fight of their lives. There is no question,” said Gareth about whether the Fury-Usyk fight took a lot out of them physically. “Part of the people will argue that Fury deserved it. Half of the people will believe that Usyk deserved it.”

I don't know what Gareth is talking about. Part of the fans do not believe that Fury deserved to win against Usyk. Where did you get that dirt?

If anything, maybe 1% of the population thinks Fury won, and those are his fans. The whole world is watching this fight as a slam dunk victory for Usyk, and they all believe that he deserved to win by knockout.

The descent of Fury

“I have never seen him injured like this, I just wonder if there are any signs of aging in him now. He turns 36 in August. He was a very big man. “He's gone from ten to 29 stone,” Gareth said of Fury. “That will have an effect on his body at some point, a knock-on effect on his body.”

If Gareth had watched Fury's last fight against Francis Ngannou, he would have seen that he is old, and works at about 50% of the fighter who defeated Klitschko. He can no longer move or defend himself, his speed is gone, and his fist resistance is zero. The Gypsy king is shot. I know it's a bitter pill for Fury fans, but that's the cold, hard truth.

Fury was knocked out cold by Deontay Wilder in their first fight, and he was obviously hurt more in that fight than he was in Usyk. However, the referee did not stop any fight, and they should definitely stop it. Popularity obviously helps.

“There will be people who will say, 'You don't have to go back. “Your legacy is protected,' but I think he will want that second fight with Usyk,” said Gareth.
