Arsenal sporting director Edu gives an assessment of the Premier League title race

Arsenal's sporting director Edu Gaspar admits he is frustrated his side did not win the Premier League this season.

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City beat the Gunners and claimed a record-breaking fourth consecutive league title under the Spaniard.

The race went down to the final day but Edu and Arsenal were counting on West Ham to get a result against the champions at the Etihad.

Mikel Arteta's side have put together a good 2024, losing just once in the last five months of the season.

But it wasn't enough to beat England's top flight and City took the honors in the end, finishing two points ahead of their rivals.

It is only the second time in as many seasons that the North London side have finished behind City and there are rumblings of frustration from many fans due to the 115 offenses that have been prioritized in the Premier League.

This was echoed in Edu's recent interview with Estadao.

He said: “It is a strange, very strange feeling! Because we finish the season feeling that we did everything right.

“From signings and goals to renewals. Mikel did a great job and achieved the goals.

“We did everything we could, but it wasn't enough.

“There is frustration, but there is also a good feeling that this program has been done well. The work was very good.

“But the whole world is praised by Pep for the training and work he has been doing since he started his career.

“I even joke with my son that I want to see if he is really good at rugby. It's a joke I'm doing because he's won everything in football.”

City's success has come under scrutiny because of the high-profile offense.

If found guilty, they can face significant points being taken away or be demoted.

Guardiola is reportedly considering retiring at the end of the 2024-25 campaign and Arteta is hoping to steer his side to the top in his absence.
