“It really means a lot to me,” Sinner told reporters in Paris. “It's not the way we all expected. He had two very long matches, tough matches, five sets, so it's tough. He finished the first one too late. You know, it's tough in the tournament too. Novak quits, it's always tough.
“If I talk about myself, I'm very happy with this success. We do a lot of work every day. It's a daily routine. Obviously I'm happy to have this number. In two days there is a very important game for me, the semi-finals, so I'm focused on that at the moment.
While Sinner celebrates his rise to the top of the world, he is aiming for two bigger goals than the world No. 1: to develop as a person and as a player to fulfill his greatest potential.
“It represents a positive result of good work ethic,” Sinner said Jon Wertheim of the Tennis Channel of his ascension. “It was one of our goals this year, but the most important goal is to improve all the time as a player and as a person, I surround myself with great people and that's it.
“I think I can be very happy and happy with what I'm doing and what my team is doing. I'm looking forward to the semis at the moment. It's not, for sure, the way I wanted to be No. I'm going down, but in the past I've played really good tennis, it's something new for me.
Sosoni will become the 29th man to hold the world No. 1 ranking since the inception of the ATP rankings.
The 22-year-old Sinner will go on a 12-match winning streak to reach the semi-finals against either Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz or 2021 French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas as Roland Garros is assured of a girls' singles title for the first time since -2016 there. Djokovic defeated Andy Murray in four sets.

House of Gucci ambassador Sinner is the fourth player Cahill has coached at world number 1 following Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi and Simona Halep.
“We've been working together for almost two years now. It's obviously a great pleasure for me to be with him,” Sinner said of Cahill. “I still remember the first week we were at Eastbourne on the grass. I immediately had a good feeling with him because he obviously has a lot of experience.
“I know he has brought different types of players to the World No. 1. He has had great success with different players. He is able to adapt to each player, and I think this is an amazing level, no? He and the player to be combined with Simone is really good, they are two different coaches, but they work very well , and they have a lot of respect for each other and the rest of the team.”
