Liverpool have hit the nail on the head as the transfer target is expected to stay at the current club

Premier League giants Liverpool have been linked with a move for Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.

According to a report from Fichajes, the Reds are keen to sign the Italian midfielder as they look for a key player in midfield.

Barella's move has been linked with the imminent departure of Thiago Alcantara and it is believed that signing the Inter midfielder will complete Liverpool's midfield rebuild.

However, the latest update has suggested that the Reds will miss out on signing the league-winning midfielder.

A transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported the latest information about the future of Barella.

Inter Milan president Javier Zanetti said both Lautaro Martinez and Barella will sign a new contract at the club and continue working for Inter.

Zanetti told Radio Serie A, as reported by Romano:

“I can confirm that Lautaro Martínez and Nicolò Barella will both sign a new contract”.

“Agreements will be made as we want to continue together on the side of the club and the players”.

Nicolo Barella has been targeted by Liverpool.

After Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left for Saudi Arabia last summer, Klopp has been quick to rebuild Liverpool's midfield, suggesting the midfielder is one of the club's top targets this summer.

The Reds will now have to shift their focus to other transfer targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool's new manager clapped hands before joining

It was reported that Arne Slot was determined to sign Barella this summer but now he will have to come up with another plan.

The incoming Liverpool manager has to deal with the possible departure of two of his defenders.

Joe Gomez is open to a new challenge away from the club and Virgil Van Dijk has been linked with Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp's departure from the club will mark the end of an era at Anfield but the club are confident of incoming manager Slot, who has enjoyed success in Holland.
