Jon Rahm's incredible ace at Augusta back in 2020 continues to inspire golfers in various positions to take on the water.

The golfer missed his tee shot over the pond near the green, into the lip of the concrete and into the hole.

This may be the result of a lot of effort, but it's still a lot of fun to watch.

Rahm's deliberate jump in the pond in front of the 16th green during practice at Augusta National Golf Club led to a hole-in-one that went viral.

It also happened on the par-3 fourth hole on his 26th birthday, one day after he shot an ace on the same hole. However, at least since the 1970s, there have been several shots of the 16th-hole lake being shot.

Vijay Singh can be credited with the modern revival of the lake crossing attempts which achieved one in 2009.

The 16th hole was redesigned by the late artist Robert Trent Jones Sr in 1946 and 1947.

Originally a short hole with a gentle pitch over a small stream, it is now a long, tight hole and tee shot played entirely over a lake.

Ken Green claims to be the first man to cross the lake in modern conditions back in 1987.

“It was like he designed the hole to be played that way,” Green said of the hole.

Green received a strong rebuke from then-Augusta National Chairman Hord Hardin.

“I think the words were, 'Here in Augusta, we avoid that kind of behavior,'” Green recalled.

Billy Andrade was notable in his opposition to this practice.

“What will happen is, someone will miss the water and it will be a bullet on the green and someone will die,” he said.

Davis Love III also stood against it but in time he will come to all good things.

“But when you understand that there are a lot of fans who stay all day and this is the only day they come to the Masters, you can see that this is good entertainment for them,” said Love. And if all the chairmen haven't stopped, I think it's okay.
