Next up is Sunny 80 on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland in June. Running from 7-9 June, Sunny 80 is a ready-made winter escape for those looking to take a break from the chilly winds down south. The comfort of the Queensland winter sun and the warmth of Queensland tourists are ready and waiting on the Sunshine Coast. So do as the whales and migrating birds do and head north for the winter in the Sunny 80. Our tip?

Plan to stay a few days longer, take in the beaches, visit the side villages, or go back and ride other routes.

The 2024 edition of the Sunny 80 will begin at the famous Sugarbag Road Trails. This is the little bike park everyone wishes they had close to home, with a solid network of paths, an asphalt pump track, built features, picnic areas, restrooms, a cafe and ocean views. We can't think of a better place to start our Friday afternoon with the 8km Prelude. Expect a flowing single track and plenty of corners.

Stage 1 on Saturday starts in Hidden Valley, entering the Parklands trails where the Cross-Country Olympic field will arrive at the Brisbane Olympics. There aren't any big stands or overbuilt features in this section – just lots of crooked paths through the forest. From old school bench cut singletrack in the rain forest, to the best trails under eucalypts and built streams – this section will have it all.

On Sunday, Stage 2 visits Ewen Maddock Dam and has a breakaway stage with another feature at the nearby Country Club in Dularcha National Park. Don't worry, it all makes sense on the day and adds a variety of routes – from Return of the Jedi style singletrack drag races, to old train tunnels, loose and wild descents and everything in between.

Each day will end without turning into a death march on the trails, so plan an afternoon at the beach, take a scenic walk, or maybe go hiking in the Glass House Mountains – there's plenty to do on the Sunshine Coast. , so plan on Sunny 80 and start your winter in Queensland this June. The event will run from June 8-10, and you can run all 3 days or choose one weekend day if you prefer. Get all the details on the Quad Crown website.
