Senators from Ottawa, Montreal and Pittsburgh

Ottawa Senators and Staios summer

Wayne Scanlan: Now, it's no secret that the Ottawa Senators were disappointing last year. Steve Staios started to fix that already. According to reports (which may be confirmed soon), Travis Green is the new head coach of the Ottawa Senators. It makes sense as he was interviewed and things went very well.

Next, there is Jakob Chychrun. Ottawa figures Chabot should stay, so Chychrun is likely the one to go. It's a question of when versus if. Also, Staios needs a shot at right guard. Travis Hamonic may be signed to be a coordinator.

After that, the General Manager still wants to find another scorer and veteran. That includes gaining strength and size in the back. Expect more moves defensively from the Staios camp. Simply put, it's going to be a busy summer.

NHL Rumors: Washington, Ottawa, and Seattle Too

Montreal Canadiens and being competitive

Arpon Base for Athletic: The Montreal Canadiens want to compete. Now, they just have to find a way to take the steps to get there. Time is not of the essence but hey, nothing lasts forever.

Teams that have made changes typically took 2.2 years to put together that 100-point campaign. Sometimes it happens quickly and sometimes it takes a long time. With Carey Price (2 more years) and his contract, along with a few others, Montreal still has to use carefully.

Juraj Slafkovsky expects to sign an extension in July and Kaiden Guhle soon. There are several free agents to sign as well.

Also, there's Kirby Dach too and that's its wildcard. Winnipeg's Cole Perfetti may be the way to go. They could take big swings from Martin Necas or maybe Trevor Zegras.

Finally, there are draft and development windows. What if Montreal wins the draft lottery on Tuesday night? That really changes things. Expect some moves toward the playoff bubble this coming season or the next.

Pittsburgh Penguins Free Agency Questions

Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey NOW: Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins know that Alex Nedeljkovic has played a key role in their move in the offseason. He went 8-1-3 over his last 12 decisions as he took over the starting job from Tristan Jarry. Mike Sullivan seems to like his hopes with Nedeljkovic. This might be interesting.

NHL Rumors: Devils, Penguins, Sharks

After that, Pierre-Olivier Joseph (RFA) has struggled out of the gates this season and has been solid at times, but as the season has progressed his play has improved. Does Pittsburgh take another chance on a defenseman? That depends on Dubas maybe.
