Virgil van Dijk reveals plans for Liverpool ahead of contract expiry

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has vowed to stay at the club and help it in the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Klopp will end his nine years at Anfield this summer and is expected to be replaced by Feyenoord's Arne Slot.

The Reds are at risk of losing several key players, with Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold all out of contract in 2025.

But the Dutch defender has vowed to stay at Liverpool and be part of an “exciting” transition period.

“There will be a big change and I am part of that,” said Van Dijk. “I think the club is busy with who is going to be the new manager and that is the main focus. Like I said I am very happy here, I love the club and you can see that.

“It's already a big part of my life, and that's all I can say. There's going to be a lot of changes happening and, I wouldn't say scary is the right word, but it's interesting and exciting what's going to happen now. .”

Klopp has just two games left in charge of Liverpool, with the Reds heading to Champions League-chasing Aston Villa on Monday night before finishing the season at home to Wolves.

“I am very proud that I played for him, fought for the badge with him and count the success we have had over the years,” said Van Dijk about Klopp.

“It will have a negative impact on the last day but it's part of life sometimes. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes but we focus on the match days and that's our job, our job and we want to get the last six points.”

Liverpool sit five points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal heading into the season finale and their hopes of ending Klopp's reign with one last title are over.

Slot, who recently teased that an announcement about his future could come soon, will leave Feyenoord without another league title after they recently surrendered their Eredivisie title to PSV Eindhoven. Like Klopp though, Slot got a domestic trophy this season, with Feyenoord winning the Dutch Cup.
