Boxing Insider Promotion's May 11 Card Continues Atlantic City's Long History of Boxing

After many successful cards held in the heart of downtown Manhattan, Boxing Insider Promotions now heads south to another popular boxing venue for its May 11 card. Because, that night, Boxing Insider will host a full night of rising talent and legendary ring regulars at Atlantic City's famed Tropicana Hotel and Casino. Accordingly, one of the main attractions of the night will be Atlantic City fighter Justin Figueroa, who will put his 8-0 record on the line against 13-7 Antoni Armas. Their junior middleweight bout is scheduled for 6 rounds. Other New Jersey fighters such as John Leonardo and Dwyke Flemmings will also appear on the card.
Boxing has long been a part of Atlantic City's sports culture. Many big games have been held in the city over the years. Perhaps the biggest of these matches was the Mike Tyson-Michael Spinks heavyweight superfight back in 1988. Other major boxing events, such as the explosive Sergio Martinez-Paul Williams rematch in 2010, and the sensational fight of Ray Mercer-Tommy Morrison in 1991. was also held in Atlantic City. In addition, famous fighters such as Evander Holyfield, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, and Lennox Lewis have all fought in Atlantic City many times.
With that in mind, perhaps the most impressive thing about Saturday's card is that fans can get a chance, in person or via broadcast, to see the sport's biggest names of the future compete in the city of boxing legends. One of the joys of being a sports fan, is remembering the famous fans before they were famous. Anyone who has lived in or near a community with a minor league baseball team can attest, as can any fan who has followed certain fighters early in their careers.
Whether any of the participants on the May 11 card will find themselves attracting paychecks with a view to the future remains to be seen. What is indisputable is that many of the stars appearing at Tropicana this weekend seem to be showing growing talent. Indeed, almost half of the names on the schedule have yet to lose a single game, and that includes Flemmings and Pryce Taylor, as well as Avios Griffin.
Saturday tickets Boxing Insider the card can be purchased from Ticketmaster. The event will be held at the Tropicana Atlantic City Showroom. Doors open at 6:30 PM eastern time and the card will begin at 7:30 PM eastern time.
