Chelsea management have discussed hiring the UEFA Coach of the Year to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine has had many disappointing moments in his first season at Stamford Bridge, including an EFL Cup final defeat to Liverpool at Wembley and, most recently, a 5-0 defeat by Arsenal in the Premier League. However, that defeat at the Emirates was Chelsea's only loss in their last 12 top-flight games, showing how Pochettino could turn things around in London.

Despite this, there are still plenty of rumors about a touchline change, with Blues managers Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte said to be returning to the club. Meanwhile, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi is thought to be the frontrunner, should Chelsea part ways with Pochettino, who recently said when asked about his future again:

“I think it's enough. All managers need time to interpret their ideas and their philosophy. Especially if the team is like this squad. We need to have time. It's not my decision.

“It is difficult to see every week that I am under scrutiny and under decision. But it is not my decision to be here or not to be here. If we want the history of Chelsea, I think it is a lot of work. to do. We will see if we have time to be this way.”

Now another update has emerged about the 4-2-3-1 style manager looking for a new job.

According to Football Insider 48 hours ago, Chelsea are still undecided when it comes to Pochettino's long-term future at the club, so they have been discussing potential replacements.

Pochettino's position will be reviewed at the end of the season, with Chelsea chiefs holding internal discussions about bringing in Hansi Flick, who is currently unemployed, so it could be a low-pressure and quick appointment.

Flick left his position as manager of the German national team last September, and before that, he was the manager of Bayern Munich. He won seven major trophies at the Allianz Arena during his two-year stay, including the Champions League, and was named UEFA coach of the year for 2019/20.

The 59-year-old averaged an impressive 2.53 points per game for Bayern in 86 games and came in for praise from Thomas Muller in 2020, with the striker saying: “The coach's thumb is clear. We all want one thing, and we pull in the same direction.

“The last time we were drilled so well we were under Pep Guardiola. Every player was allowed to add his touch to his position based on his preferences, strengths and weaknesses, but the role was always clear. There were no ifs, buts or maybes. Hansi gives us clear instructions – not options, but specific details that's why we were able to come back well after taking over.”

Pep Guardiola's comparison to Muller is indeed a huge honor, so it will be interesting to see if the Blues step up their interest in Flick in the coming months.
