Golden Boy Promotions has signed a long-term promotional deal with Kenneth Sims Jr.

Golden Boy Promotions has announced the signing of No.1 WBA-ranked super lightweight Kenneth Sims Jr. (20-2-1, 7 KOs). The former Team USA wrestler from Chicago, Illinois will make his highly anticipated Golden Boy debut on an upcoming card this summer of 2024.

“With the No.1 ranking in the WBA, incredible skills and a dynamite tram behind him, Kenneth Sims is poised to make some real noise in the 140-pound division,” said Golden Boy Chairman and CEO Oscar De This Hoya. “Within the company, we have a lot of game that doesn't trickle down to Kenneth that can quickly put him in the world championship.”

Freshman Kenneth Sims Jr. he began his boxing career at the age of eight when his father, Kenneth Sims Sr., wanted him to learn some self-defense skills. He built an ateur career that saw him become a nine-time national champion and appeared at the 2012 Olympic Trials where he lost a one-point decision to Olympian and future world champion Jose Ramirez. Sims made the decision to remain a novice following the 2012 Olympic Trials and won the 2013 US National Championship to earn a spot on the USA Boxing National Team. Soon he was traveling the world with his teammates, visiting places like Ukraine, Ireland, Chile and Puerto Rico, culminating in an appearance at the 2013 World Championships in Kazakhstan.

Sims Jr. decided to turn professional in March 2014 and quickly accumulated a winning streak. With only two losses and a draw on his record, he has rebuilt himself to become one of the top junior welterweights in the division. His tag team performance was an upset win over previously undefeated Elvis Rodriguez on May 22, 2021. Sims capitalized this time around, beating Rodriguez en route to a majority decision. Since then, he has added four more carts to his progress and moved him to the top.

Outside of the ring, Sims and his fiancée Jailyn live in the Chicago area with their daughter Nova and son Kenneth Sims III.
