Guardians Outright Tyler Beede – MLB Trade Rumors

The guards sent the right hand Tyler Beede directly to Triple-A Columbus, according to his trade tracker on MLB.com. That indicates he has withdrawn from waivers after being selected for the job last week. You have the right to choose a free association but it is not clear that you have been chosen to do so.

Beede, 31 this month, returned to the big leagues after spending 2023 in Japan. He signed a minor league deal with the Guardians and cracked the Opening Day roster by throwing 13 innings in Spring Training with a 4.15 earned run average.

Unfortunately, regular season results weren't there for him, despite a solid 26.5% strikeout rate. He allowed 13 earned runs in 14 innings, resulting in an 8.36 ERA. There was a bit of bad luck there, as he couldn't keep up with a .389 batting average on balls in play or a 55.6% strand rate in the larger sample. But he also didn't do well with a 13.2% walk rate. His 5.00 FIP was better than his ERA but still not great, although his 3.78 SIERA was very promising.

Once a top prospect with the Giants, Beede struggled to hold his own in the majors from 2018 to 2022, expiring his option period in the draft. That means he is now out of power and can't easily be sent to children. He has lost out to 40 Guardians players recently and 29 other clubs have all had a chance to stop him.

All players with at least three years of service time or direct prior employment have the right to outright decline assignments, opting for free agency instead. Beede fits both counts and can head to the open market if he chooses.
