Pau Cubarsi has signed a new Barcelona contract with a huge release clause

Barcelona have confirmed that Pau Cubarsi has signed a new contract that will commit him to the club until 2027.

The 17-year-old has been promoted to Xavi's senior squad this season and has quickly established himself as a regular starter, having played 17 of the 20 games so far since the first whistle.

With many of Europe's top sides starting to show an interest, Barcelona quickly acted to tie Cubarsi to a new three-year contract with a significantly improved salary.

Cubarsi's deal now includes a €500m (£430m) release clause to ensure Barcelona do not find themselves forced to let him go anytime soon.

After turning 18 in January 2025, Cubarsi is expected to see the terms of his contract improve, AS stating that his next contract has already been agreed and will run until 2029.

Barcelona's agreement with Cubarsi is similar to that of young player Lamine Yamal, who has already rejected the terms of his first contract.

Still only 16 years old, Yamal currently has a contract until 2026 but Barca sporting director Deco recently revealed that they already have a deal in place with the midfielder to keep him at the club for “the next eight years”.

Talks are also ongoing regarding the extension of defender Hector Fort, who is still on a youth contract.

Fort, 17, has made eight appearances for Xavi's side this season, and reports suggest Barcelona are hoping to sign the right-back soon.
