Perhaps no one should be surprised. John Fury, father of WBC titleholder Tyson Fury, knocked out teammate Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia on Monday. Usyk, of course, fights the younger Fury this Saturday for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world. However, that fact did not stop the chaos between the two fighter teams a few days before the match. “We will not lose!” big Fury shouted to the crowd after hitting his head, blood flowing from his forehead. After that, he told Treading Area that he was beautiful. Despite all that had just happened, Fury actually tipped his hat to Usyk. “I have to praise him,” he said of his son's rival.
Fury also added that after that there was peace between the two camps. “They came and apologized to me,” he said, “and it wasn't necessary.” When asked what led to him being shot in the head, Fury came out and said: “He (a member of Team Usyk) said something about my son.” The whole story was John Fury, a passionate, good-natured fan of his son who is known to fly off the handle. Although this thing is not unusual in boxing, but it is never good to see chaos break out, especially among people who will not even fight in the ring.
The fact is that the energy levels are very high now that Fury and Usyk are about to finish this weekend. First of all, there hasn't been a world heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis – and that was a long time ago. Another thing is that the fight was postponed after Fury was injured in training at the beginning of the year. Of course, there are still fears that something might happen, which will keep the much-anticipated launch from happening as planned in five days.
The truth is that Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk differ in many ways, not only in style, but also in personality. Anger is big, loud and weird. The relatively cool (and sometimes ridiculous) Usyk, on the other hand, is a traditionally built heavyweight. Syk is also a man who likes to hire angles in the ring, while Fury can be aggressive, but also extremely smooth. Two different fighters. Two different views. It's no wonder that, ahead of the biggest heavyweight fight in years, tempers are starting to flare. Let's hope everyone keeps things on track from here on out.
