Ange Postecoglou blasts “really fragile foundations” at Spurs following Manchester City defeat

Ange Postecoglou believes the “foundations are really weak” at Tottenham following their defeat by Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Defeat ended Tottenham's Champions League hopes and meant they did their rivals Arsenal no favors in the title race.

Spurs lost 2-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Erling Haaland, but missed a good chance to level the game when Heung-Min Son crossed the goal, but was denied by Stefan Ortega.

Postecoglou on weak bases at Tottenham

Many Spurs fans were happy to lose, meaning that unless City go through at home to West Ham, Arsenal's 20-year wait for the Premier League title will continue.

Postecoglou's side performed well in their final home game of the season, but when the Australian was asked if he felt the foundations were being laid for a winning side he did not hold back.

“No, I think the last 48 hours have shown me that the foundations are fragile”, the Spurs manager told reporters.

Postecoglou attacked the “weak foundations” at Tottenham.

“That's what I feel, the last 48 hours have revealed me a little.

“Okay, that means I have to go back to the drawing board with some things, outside [the club]inside, it's been an interesting job.”

He added: “I probably misread the situation in terms of what I think is important in our quest to be a winning team, but that's okay, that's why I'm here.”

This 58-year-old player refused the opportunity to explain exactly what he needs to fix when he goes to the next season.

There was a strange feeling surrounding the game as many Tottenham fans wanted their team to lose, and you could see some fans celebrating when City scored.

At one point during the match Postecoglou seemed to lose his cool and tackled a fan from his technical area.

Spurs finish their season with a trip to relegated Sheffield United and it is clear that there is a lot of work to be done at the club this summer, but it remains to be seen how far Daniel Levy will back his boss.
