Bruno Fernandes makes clear his intentions for the future of Man Utd

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has made it clear his desire to stay at Old Trafford this season, as long as that feeling is reciprocated by the club.

Fernandes has seen his future the subject of speculation in recent weeks, with links to Bayern Munich and the Saudi Pro League emerging only in the past few days.

But he has always said that he will be a Manchester United player for as long as he is wanted. Speaking after Wednesday night's 3-2 victory over Newcastle United, the captain suggested that the club remain firm in its belief that he is still part of the puzzle.

“I will be here until the club wants me and the team wants me to be part of the future. If for some reason they don't want me, I will leave,” said Fernandes. Sky Sports.

With Newcastle's victory, United moved level on points with the Magpies in the Premier League ahead of the final day of the 2023/24 season on Sunday. A superior goal difference keeps Newcastle ahead in seventh place – which would be good enough for the Europa Conference League – but any slip at Brentford at the weekend will open the way for United, who travel to Brighton.

Even though United finished in eighth place and recorded their lowest Premier League record, they could still secure a Europa League place by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Ironically, if that didn't happen it would knock Newcastle out of Europe, assuming they won't overtake Chelsea in sixth place.

“It is clear that the work is not done yet. We still have one game left in the Premier League and then the biggest game of the season, the FA Cup final,” explained Fernandes.

“It's been a tough season. and see [fans] that's right.

“It was a surprise for us and we had to do something, we've been trying but the results don't show that. We were working hard and everyone was giving everything but it's not enough and we have to do more.

“Nothing, the captain's performance, it's a team game. I'm no different to anyone else because I have the belt. I always try my best and we do our best as a team – no one hides that. We play for a big club and we have to raise our level every game.”
