Chelsea are talking about an £8.5 million bid for the title winner

Chelsea's management are in internal discussions about bringing in a successful manager to replace Mauricio Pochettino, according to reliable transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano.

Pochettino is officially leaving Chelsea

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, assisted by the club's sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, have now been tasked with finding Pochettino's replacement – following Chelsea's controversial decision to part ways with the Argentinian.

The new player has been linked with potential exits.

The Blues finished 2023/2024 on a high under Pochettino, winning their last five Premier League games and securing a place in next season's Europa Conference League. Their late-season surge in form has led to European football next season, and at least gives Chelsea something to build on next campaign.

However, it seems that both Pochettino and the club could not find a way forward in cooperation together, front of which the ex-Tottenham manager was left by “mutual consent” on Tuesday evening – as Chelsea's official announcement reads.

Attention now turns to how they will proceed with Pochettino's successor, and many names have already been linked. Chelsea are believed to have held informal talks with Thomas Tuchel, according to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, while Brentford boss Thomas Frank is believed to have suitors at Stamford Bridge.

Their next appointment will be crucial, as Boehly and the Chelsea board will not want to be scouted again by management sometime in 2024/2025. Romano, shares an update on Chelsea's options, listing potential moves to west London.

Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea are talking about Maresca

Taking to X, the reliable reporter claims that Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca figures heavily in their thinking. He says Chelsea chiefs are talking internally about appointing Maresca to replace Pochettino, coming after the former Man City boss guided Leicester to the Championship title and automatic promotion in his first campaign.

The midfielder's contract is thought to include an £8.5 million release clause, following the Foxes' rise back to the top flight. Maresca has also done admirably for the King Power, particularly with midfielder Harry Winks, who has thrived under his tutelage.

“You are amazing in every way,” said Winks on talkSPORT. “He is a manager who I think will reach the top. His understanding of football is something I have never seen before. I think his approachability and handling of people is exceptional. I really enjoyed working for him a lot and I'm still learning a lot every day.
