Xavi sends heartfelt message to fans after Barcelona exit

Xavi thanked the Barcelona fans for supporting him during his busy time in charge of the club.

It was confirmed on Friday that Xavi will not continue to be in charge after Sunday's game against Sevilla, after a disagreement with president Joan Laporta ended up disrupting all progress that had taken place when Xavi reversed his initial decision to retire in April.

Speaking on social media after the news was announced, Xavi wrote an emotional letter to those who have stood by him since returning to Barca in November 2021.

“Dear fans, my time on the Barca bench will end on Sunday,” he wrote Instagram. “It's never easy to leave the club of your life, but I'm doing it with pride, after two and a half years at the head of a dressing room that's like a second family.

“I would like to thank the support and love of the fans who have been constant and have always shown me the same love as when I was a player. From Sunday I will be one player on social media. now at the Olympic Stadium or in a few months at Camp Nou Because before I am a player or a coach, I am a Barcelona fan and I want the best is the club of my life, which will always be with me .

“I have worked with a group of great players and an amazing staff. Thanks to everyone, we have achieved the goals we set, we reached the climax last year with the League and the Super Cup. This season things did not go as we wanted, but we put our heads together and helped raise a new generation of young footballers from La Masia who inspire us all we Barcelona fans.

“I am very grateful to all. To the fans, players, staff, club staff, the president, the board of directors, the sports directors, the media and everyone I have shared the journey with in these two and a half seasons. .

“I wish the best for the club that I carry in my heart. Long live Barca.”

Barcelona wasted little time in finding a replacement, eventually agreeing a deal with long-time target Hansi Flick.

The former Germany manager was keen on the job when Xavi first began plotting a move in January and, after confirming he still wanted to make the decision, a two-year contract was agreed.
