The three-time Roland Garros champion said afterwards that the relief from his big escape led to an emotional release.
“Maybe I was crying because there are cameras in the gym,” said Swiatek. “Well, I'm just overwhelmed with emotions, I was telling myself that I will leave this competition.
“Even though I felt something on the court, it was like a beating after that. I was happy that I won, but I felt like I was really on the edge. So, yeah, I just cried.”
There is no time for tears today as Swiatek is wrinkled Marie Bouzkova 6-4, 6-2 to earn his 17th consecutive Roland Garros victory and reach the fourth round of the French Open for the sixth year in a row.
