Dan Hurley Plans to Make Final Coaching Decision Monday

UConn head coach Dan Hurley will reportedly make a decision to take the Lakers head coaching job soon, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

After meeting with the Lakers on Friday in California, Hurley plans to make a decision on his future on Monday, Woj said.

“Hurley told ESPN that the Los Angeles Lakers made a “compelling case” and presented a “compelling idea” for him to be the franchise's next coach but that he likes what he has built at two-time defending national champion UConn…,” he continued.

In the media, J. J. Redick has been the front runner for the coaching role, but Woj also confirmed that, “Hurley has been at the forefront of the Lakers' search from the beginning of the process, although the organization has done its job. actively interviewing other candidates, sources said. New Orleans assistant only James Borrego has two personal interviews in Los Angeles, sources said.

Wojnarowski later added, “The Lakers have continued discussions with other candidates over the past few weeks, but the potential to land Hurley has been the focus of the Lakers' search,” sources said.

With league leading scorer LeBron James on the Lakers roster, the new coach will be held to a high standard.

Fired Lakers coach Darvin Ham went 90-74 in the regular season during his time in purple and gold.

He went 9-12 (. 429) in the postseason and won two championships, since being hired to replace Frank Vogel in 2022.

Hurley won back-to-back national championships with the Huskies men's basketball team and often talks about his desire to one day coach in the NBA.
