The Football Association is currently not working on a succession plan for England coach Gareth Southgate and they are 'desperate' that he does not exceed his contract, a report has said.
Southgate's contract expires in December 2024 and he is yet to decide on his future. This summer's European Championships will be his fourth major tournament in charge of the Three Lions.
I The Daily Telegraph they say that despite the uncertainty over Southgate's position, the FA have no plans to replace him and are confident he will remain in charge of their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The report lists four possible candidates for the England job should Southgate leave – Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel – but adds that they have not been spoken to and there is no succession plan in place.

Southgate admitted that any decision could be taken out of his hands if England do not have a successful Euro 2024, with the Three Lions among the favorites to go all the way.
“If we don't win, I probably won't be here anymore,” Southgate said recently BILD.
“So maybe it's the last chance. I think about half of the national coaches leave after the tournament – that's the state of international football.
“I've been here for almost eight years now and we're close. You can't always put yourself in front of the public and say, 'Please a little bit', as at some point people lose faith. If we want to be a big team and I want to be a top coach, you have to achieve big goals.”
Southgate has also been linked with the Manchester United job in recent months, although the Red Devils are still considering the future of current manager Erik ten Hag.
