Four world title fights will air LIVE on ESPN+ MONDAY at 4am ET/1am PT

Naoya Inoue defends his undisputed super bantamweight championship against Luis Nery on May 6 at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. The ringwalks of Inoue vs. Nery is scheduled for 6 am ET / 11 am UK and the event will start at 4 am ET / 9 am UK. The timing is wrong for American fans.

Less Than Perfect Matches

Perhaps Top Rank realized that American fans would not be eager to see the event because Inoue chose Nery, a fighter who had just come out. This is the wrong guy for Monster Inoue to fight if he wants to get the American fans excited for his May 6th event.

Throw in Inoue and Luis Alberto Lopez, and you have an American audience that would be more than willing to get up at 4:00 in the morning to watch it.

Top Rank calls this the “greatest boxing action” Japan has ever seen. but it is not clear why. Nery had already been released by Brandon Figueroa in 2021

The undercard is a mixed bag for May 6, with some decent fights, but nothing out of this world to be called “the biggest boxing event” in Japanese history.

The Lopez Factor

That was a tough match for 'Monster' Inoue, so it's no surprise that he decided to stay at 122 rather than move up to 126 and is expected to face Luis Alberto Lopez, Raymond Ford, Rey Vargas, and Robeisy Ramirez.

“Naoya Inoue is the best boxer in the world, a young man who amazes me every time he enters the ring. Luis Nery is a tough opponent, but I fully expect Inoue to get the job done in front of over 50,000 fans at the Tokyo Dome,” said Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.

“On top of this amazing event, we have an amazing undercard headlined by Jason Moloney, a street fighter coming to Japan determined to prove he is the best bantamweight in the world.”
