Edu and Arteta are making summer transfer plans at Arsenal

Sporting director Edu and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta are working hand-in-hand when it comes to the club's transfer business, as is well known, and the former has publicly stated that Arsenal intend to make a move in the summer window.

“I understand what the fans are asking for but we already have our goals,” said Edu on Arsenal's 2024 transfer plans to TNT Sports.

“We have planned a lot in advance and I will be worried if we don't score a lot of goals or if we don't create chances because we create a lot and score a lot of goals. The plan is to try to get better every year and I think we are in a good time. Let's see if we can continue to improve.”

On the pitch, Arsenal are currently chasing a first Premier League title in 20 years after a campaign of great goalscoring form. No other team in the top flight has scored more goals this season than the north Londoners, but Arteta is still hoping for a drop from Man City, who hold all the cards statistically going into the last few games of 2023/2024.

Coming up against Pep Guardiola's City side, who many believe could be one of the best football teams you've ever seen, is an unlucky place to be from Arsenal's point of view. But, whatever the outcome of this title race, it can be said that Arsenal can keep their heads up – as they could get 89 points if they win their last two games.

The summer window will be crucial, regardless of whether they go into it as English champions. To maintain their place among the country's top sides, it is believed that Arsenal will try to sign a new “important” striker (Fabrizio Romano).

The likes of Kai Havertz, who excelled in a makeshift forward role in 23/24, will feel the pinch – but Arsenal's goal-scoring form has not changed their plans to bring in a new natural number nine. Gabriel Jesus could even pave the way for Arsenal to land a world-class striker, and one name that has been mentioned frequently is Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swede, who has scored 41 goals in all competitions this season, has an £86 million release clause in his contract. However, that doesn't mean Arsenal will have to pay it, as some reports suggest Sporting could consider an offer in excess of £43 million (La Gazzetta).

That would be an advantage at all levels, the newspaper Jornal de Noticias (via Sport Witness) shared an update on his situation and Arsenal's interest. Indeed, they wrote that Gyokeres is “certain” to leave this summer and Arsenal are “main contenders” for a deal.

Arsenal officials are also said to be “very impressed” with the 25-year-old's form this term, which is hardly surprising.
