Golf Business News – Walmley GC to host open days on UK's most handicap-designed artificial green.

Walmley Golf Club in Birmingham and the Walmley Golf Foundation CIC have announced a series of events to mark the opening of the UK's first handicap accessible putting green.

The artificial putting green, supplied and installed by Huxley Golf, offers people with additional mobility needs, such as wheelchairs or walking aids, the ability to access the sport for the first time.

To celebrate the new green, which is already open, the club is hosting two open days this summer, the first on May 23 and the second on August 27.

At the launch event in May, local models of diversity and inclusion will be on hand, and the day will also feature the 'Big Chip-In Challenge' which recreates the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass, with invited guests raising £250 each. successful shooting.

As part of a program to encourage disabled people to take up golf, the Walmley Golf Foundation also offers players to all of the Midlands' funded sessions, meaning that anyone with additional mobility needs of any background has the opportunity to give the game a go.

Lesley Robbins, chairman of Walmley Golf Foundation CIC, said: “We have worked together over the last four years to fund almost £100,000 of new infrastructure. These include a covered practice range with heating and lighting, an indoor practice studio and now the glory, a short game practice area. All of this was achieved through fundraising and grants. We want to change the lives of people who may feel isolated in our community and show how inclusive golf can be for everyone.”
