Oilers Coach Provides Injury Update on Leon Draisaitl – Hockey Writers – Edmonton Oilers

Leon Draisaitl left the game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks in the second half, went to the locker room, and did not return as the second half began. It is not clear what kind of injury he may have suffered and broadcast analysts are trying to determine where and when he may have been hit, something that could have kept the tough player out of action. Turns out, according to the Oilers coach, it was mechanical and equipment issues.

Draisaitl came back for the third period and didn't look the same and wasn't as sharp – most of the Oilers weren't in Vancouver's comeback win – he worked a little but didn't look hurt. Draisaitl did not speak to the media after the loss. He was being worked on by trainers and medical staff. But, in the post-game interview, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that it was pressing issues.

It's not expected to be a long-term problem or concern added Knoblauch. At the same time, there will be concern among the Oilers' fan base. Having a healthy Draisaitl is a big problem for the Oilers who now find themselves down in the game after seemingly having Game 1 in hand.

Draisaitl's Issues Turn Momentum Against Edmonton

The timing of Draisaitl's departure coincided with Vancouver's push. Down 4-2 going into the third period, the Canucks pressed hard and scored three unanswered goals to take the lead. What really upset Edmonton was that they didn't have a shot on goal until 14 minutes into the period and Connor McDavid was caught off guard for the first time in his playoff career.

Edmonton didn't play well in the final half of the game, but the concern over Draisaitl seemed to demotivate the team instead of spurring it on after one of its top guys appeared to be out.

The expectation is that Draisaitl will play in Game 2, but this will be a case in point.
