Could A Reunion Between Ken Holland And Don Waddell Be In The Works?

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman joined Scott Laughlin and Gord Stellick on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Morning Skate and when asked about Ken Holland leaving Edmonton to join Columbus and Don Waddell, Friedman didn't rule it out.

** NHLRumors.com transcript

NHL Rumors: Columbus Blue Jackets, Los Angeles Kings, and Toronto Maple Leafs

Scott Laughlin: “Hey Friedge. We're kicking this a little bit. up front. And I think everyone agrees that John Davidson made a great hire with Don Waddell, outside of the contract with Carolina, that ship had sailed. So Don was looking for the next challenge and yesterday he was named officially as the new Jackets General Manager and President of Hockey Operations. So you have that and all the while you're starting to hear speculation about Ken Holland and Don Waddell, Detroit days.

And everybody's thinking, I mean at the end of it all maybe Ken Holland doesn't want to retire, you know, maybe he doesn't want to just hang out again because maybe he wants to keep going. What do you think would happen if, in fact, Ken leaves the Oilers and Jeff Jackson takes over, would Ken Holland be interested in meeting with Don Waddell in Columbus?”

NHL Rumors: Juuse Saros and the Active Goaltending Market

Elliotte Friedman: I have to say before Don Waddell took over, I was like, that ends with Ken Holland's vision and people saying, Not soon, it's still possible.

Now, it's hard to deal with right now, Scott. They're still going and one of the things that I really believe is happening there, sorry Scotty, is that Edmonton, like let's say if they want to hire someone, they're very careful in the sense that we 'don't want it to come out when they're in the play-offs.

NHL Rumors: Did Linus Ullmark Play His Last Game in Boston?

So I don't think they asked to speak to anyone. So I think that adds to the level of uncertainty that we have here. I will say this. The best way to answer that question is when Waddell was hired, I thought, well, it can't be a Waddell/Holland combination. A few people say don't be so sure.

But still, like it still seems strange to me. So I'll let it play out and once Edmonton is done here, I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of all this.
